BIO
Damián «Vega» Velasco (Langreo 1980) Visual artist. Technician in Printmaking (Oviedo School of Art). He completed his training at the Litografía Viña Print Center (Gijón). He works from the perspective of multiple art and graphic work. His work includes drawings, prints, murals, visuals, artist’s books. His most recent work focuses on the artistic representation of the industrial landscape with a documentary character and incorporating new technologies into traditional printing techniques.In 2016 he moved to Ljubljana (Slovenia) where he held several individual and group exhibitions around the urban landscape of the Slovenian capital. His stay was linked to MGLC (Ljubljana International Museum of Graphic Art) where he collaborates as a technician in the organization and design of the 31st Graphic Art Biennial and teaches experimental printmaking workshops on the occasion of the retrospective exhibition “Tàpies: Grafika 1959 – 1987 ”(Tapiès Foundation – MGLC) The same year, he received the Art Nalón award in Langreo, Asturias with a selection of graphic work inspired by the industrial landscape of the Asturian coalfields vallyes: “Graphic Work 2014-2016”Since 2017 he regularly exhibits in Norway where he has was selected for FLOOD 2019 residence (Dalane Culture Festival + Rogaland Kunstsenter) in the Rogaland region. Since 2018 he works on the project “VERTICAL: Castilletes of coal mining in Asturias” at Laboral Center for Art and Industrial Creation through the residence “Laboral Impulsa”(2018-2019). The project is produced by the Municipal Culture Foundation of the Gijón City Council and has the support of Impulsa Gijón and various institutions in the region related to industrial heritage.
